I am writing a biography of Ken Wharton and am in regular contact with his former mechanic, Bill Blyth. Bill is a very interesting man, a tool maker who specialised in JAP engines, which is why Wharton took him on. He was one of the first to be involved in fitting double knocker JAPS into Coopers designed to take single cylinder engines and also in supercharging them. He also built Ken's MKII Cooper Bristol, having told me that if you wanted anything out of Coopers in those days, you had tobuild it yourself.
