Bob Akin

This former two-time winner of the Sebring 12 hours died as a result of injuries sustained in a testing accident at Road Atlanta while driving a 1988 Group C Nissan.

Akin, who had raced sportscars successfully from 1973, first won Sebring in ’79, Rob McFarlin and Roy Woods co-driving his Porsche 935. To win the ’86 event, he employed Hans-Joachim Stuck and Jo Gartner as co-drivers in his Porsche 962. In between these highlights, Bob scored his best Le Mans result, fourth in 1984, sharing a Walter Brun-run Porsche 956 with the team owner. DM
