Brooklands

It seems extraordinary that a motor racing track could be 100 years old, but that is Brooklands’ proud boast this year. When Hugh Locke King conceived the idea of a venue for racing and where British manufacturers could test their products, no one had a picture of what such a venue would comprise. He put no limits on either concept or budget, and so gave us what in 1907 was a world wonder. 

That the Track was open for only 32 years does not detract from its significance as the world’s first race circuit, and its reawakening as one of the most atmospheric museum complexes in the country is something to applaud. To appreciate something of the old days, visit the celebrations on June 16-17.
