Lotus ace Ayrton Senna comes out on top during the re-staged Belgian GP at Spa.  Nigel Mansell (Williams) trails him home by 30sec in variable conditions.

Brian Redman storms the inaugural Long Beach GP for Formula 5000 cars aboard his Lola T332.  Tony Brise and Al Unser win their heats but retire in the final.

Juan Manuel Fangio wins the Italian GP for Mercedes from team-mate Piero Taruffi with only Eugenio Castelotti offering any real challenge, the Ferrari man’s tenacious drive being rewarded with third place.
