Bianco Fuji (Pearl White) with Charcoal and Red bespoke Alcantara interior, 7,000 Miles from new. This is the only “Mantide” based on the Corvette ZR1 created by designer Jason Castriota and produced by Italian coachbuilder – Stile Bertone.
The following link tells the story of the creation of the Bertone Mantide
In 2009 it was unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show as a design model and later tested as a finished product at the Nardo Test Facility in Italy. Its top speed when tested…233 MPH!
Later in 2009 it was driving up the hill during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Shortly thereafter, the Mantide was air freighted to the USA and delivered directly to Autosport Designs, Inc. where it was join by its owner and designer. It was immediately fired up and driven non-stop in convoy with a few other special cars including a McLaren F1 to the 2009 Pebble Beach automotive festivities. (The cross-country jaunt was a featured story in Automobile magazine). Once in Pebble Beach, it was previewed at the Gooding and Company cocktail party prior to being shown on the concept lawn at Pebble Beach.
After Pebble Beach the Mantide was transported back to the East Coast, to Autosport Designs, Inc. for a quick servicing prior to returning home to the owner’s collection. It was decided to change the color of the Mantide from its original Red to its current Bianco Fuji, as per the owner…"because I like that color better" :-)
Now in its resplendent “Bianco Fuji”, the Mantide was air freighted to the Dubai Auto Show in November 2009 and spent until February 2010 being shown in Dubai before being air freighted once again back to the United States.
March 2010 saw the Mantides interior retrimmed in Automotive Alcantara instead of its original nubuck leather. As it turned out, the nubuck interior was not very practical. Hold on…one of a kind, 233 MPH, “practical?!?” Yes, practical, as noted, it has been used and thanks to its hi-output Corvette ZR1 engine, is extremely practical to use. The standard Corvette hifi was removed in favor of aPioneer set up, radar detector added – did I mentioned it can do 233 mph?
Later in 2010 the Mantide was again on the west coast, this time for The Quail where it won 1st Place in the Super Car Class. http://www.sportscardigest.com/quail-motorsports-gathering-2010-winners-and-photo-gallery/
The last time the Mantide was shown was at the Long Island Manhasset Concours where it won Best Custom Coachwork.http://www.americanamanhasset.com/events/8/
A golden ticket to the most prestigious automobile events throughout the world, this one off Bertone Mantide can be purchased as is or with the “Rights” and “Tooling” to create another limited run.
