Motor Sport is one of the backers of Masters Historic Racing’s weekend which re-opens the famous Donington circuit next week, 4 and 5 September
Here, you could win some weekend all access passes, in our special quiz below
After a disastrous 2009, in which the previous operating company trying to build a Formula One Grand Prix venue at Donington collapsed leaving debts, damage and doom at the circuit, Masters will be holding a historic race meeting to celebrate the new circuit licence and its fabled history – Donington Revived! will have races for everything historic, from 1980s Grand Prix cars, to 1950s saloons, with sports racing, GT and touring cars in between. A key feature will be the 2 sprint races for GT and touring cars from the late 1970s, a Commemoration Race for the original May 1977 circuit opening.
Masters have also worked with Kevin Wheatcroft and his team in order to bring out some of the Donington Collection’s really rare and unusual GP cars, including it is planned, “a silver pre-WW2 one”, as well as the Vanwall, Ascari’s 1953 Ferrari and many more. Spectators may expect also to see the Tyrrell 6 wheeler, the JPS Lotus 79 and a 1952 OSCA among many other rarities on track.
Support from the Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Jaguar Enthusiasts and appropriately for the 1970s theme, the Capri Club will lend some glamour to the paddock car club displays, and to their track tours during both the Saturday and Sunday lunch breaks
Tom Wheatcroft’s memory will be everywhere, nowhere more so than in the fund raising dinner and party on the Saturday – some tickets at £45 each may still be available – for the cancer charity, Hope against Cancer, based in Leicester which he supported with his usual great energy, and which in turn, helped him and the family prior to his death last autumn. Kevin, his son, the new team at Donington, the Masters team and many competing drivers will share an evening of film, and fun and reminiscences.
A strong level of local spectating support is expected from the Derby, Leicester and Nottingham areas, not least since so many local pubs, hotels and businesses have been adversely affected by the year long closure of the much loved circuit. So, if you would like to join them, race action starts at 9.30 on both the Saturday and Sunday and advance tickets can be bought via www.barc.net/sales, or on the gate.
But if you would like to win up to 4 weekend passes, in this exclusive Motor Sport offer, just answer the questions correctly below. We will draw the lucky winners out of the proverbial hat, and hope you enjoy a fine weekend!
