International Single-seaters

Five years after the launch of GP2, championship CEO Bruno Michel introduced a new feeder formula in 2010 that would rival the long-established Formula 3. Like its bigger brother, this third-tier Formula 1 support series specified a Dallara chassis, Renault engine (a 2-litre turbocharged unit) and Pirelli tyres. Again two GP3 races are held each F1 weekend with a top eight "reverse" grid for Sunday's race based on the finishing positions of Race One.

With the avowed aim of helping young talent to progress to GP2 and then F1, three of the first four champions (Esteban Gutiérrez, Valtteri Bottas and Daniil Kvyat) all soon progressed to Grand Prix racing.
