The Champ Car World Series returned to Denver, Colorado in 2002 on a new temporary circuit laid out around the city’s Pepsi Center Expo. As with the downtown street circuit from the early 1990s, the city’s high altitude posed its particular problems for its competitors. The event remained on the calendar for five years with Sébastien Bourdais and Bruno Junqueira both winning twice.
