I bought a single digital issue of the June 13 edition. Download has been completed and I see 2 options below the icon: “Archive” and “Download”. I can’t work out how to view the edition. I taped the icon and nothing happens, I tapped “Archive” and the Archive option disappeared + it seemed that I needed to download the edition again. It must be simple but I can’t see the contents. Help appreciated. I’m not a subscriber and have no account. Thanks, Bert

Hi Bert, once you have downloaded the issue you will get the option to click ‘View’. If you are still seeing the download button please click it again – this is likely showing as the issue has not completed downloaded yet, this may be due to the Wi-Fi connection dropping out or has been interrupted during download. The archive option removes the issue from your iPad allowing you to free up space and download the issue again at a later date.

I just read through the last two issues on my Android device. This is remarkably better than the print versions, enhanced in every way. I can finally get the latest issue at the same time as the UK, and the video links are oustanding. This is the best digital magazine adaptation I’ve yet seen.

I love the digital edition and have usually devoured it before my hard copy subscription arrives – but I have trouble following the links to some of the historical articles. Some give me a ‘so sorry – address invalid’ message which is disappointing – but far worse is when the article is found (Moss/Jenks Mille Miglia is a fine example) where the text from a print copy – presumably scanned and run through an optical character recognition engine – becomes practically incomprehensible. Pull it up and try reading it – very sad!
Could you please invest in a better OCR program or, if necessary, have some editors with knowledge of the sport read and edit the articles so they are as good as the originals.
Thanks for listening – please keep up the good work and strive for perfection!!

Hi John, glad to hear you are enjoying the Archive. You are correct in that we have scanned in previous issues to create the digital copy. We are aware that there are errors in the text recognition across a number of articles. To resolve this we currently have staff in the office working their way through each of the 1061 issues on the archive and correcting any errors in each one. We do ask, if you notice an error please do click the ‘Noticed an error on this page’ button that is on each article, as this will help us identify specific articles.

    Dear Sirs,

I have just been looking at my old downloads and it advised me I could update the magazine, I have clicked on a couple but the download is not working it just gives me the option to pause but this does not do anything, I am unable to view the magazine, I have tried login out and back in and I tried shutting the app.

    Yours sincerely

  14. Robert

Hi Chris, when you are attempting to update the magazine please ensure you are connected to a WiFi source for the complete duration of the download. If this is still failing to resolve the problem, please tab the ‘Archive’ button underneath the logo – this will remove the issue from your device allowing you to re-download the issue from the start again.

Will there ever be a digital version that can be read in landscape mode on an ipad as it currently only appears as portrait?

I have a digital subscription and receive the magazine regularly. I use a Nexus 7 tablet. The text is readable but very small. Is there a way of using the normal Android gestures to increase the text size? I have noted that the app does not work in “wide” mode, which may have helped with the text size. Thanks.

Hi Robert, we don’t currently have any plans for the digital magazine pages to appear in landscape mode. However I have passed your feedback onto our designers for them to consider in any future updates.

  20. Robert

Hi Brian, thanks for your message. Re the ability to increase the text size the answer is currently no. It’s something our designers are aware of and will look into the ability to implement in any future container app updates. I’ve passed your feedback onto them re the landscape mode so they can also consider this in any future design updates.

  22. Robert

Hi Ali, thank you for your message. With the bundle package you will receive the monthly print magazine via the post, it also provides the monthly digital magazine available on iPad and Android tablet. It also gives you access to our Motor Sport archive, which has every issue from 1924 through to about 8 months behind the current magazine, this is web based and can be viewed on PC, laptop, tablet etc. as long as the device has a web browser connected to the internet. If your Dad is interested in our old issues I’m sure he will enjoy this as it provides over 100 issues, fully searchable, and has every page scanned in from cover to cover including the classifieds, plus all the text has been digitised for easier reading.

If you wish to adjust your print only subscription to a digital only and receive the magazine via your iPad or Android tablet please contact our subscription team on 020 7349 8472 or at and they will be able to arrange this simple change for you.

    Hi George,
The digital magazine app is only available for iOS iPads and on Android tablets at the moment and will not be able to be used on your Mac Book. If you do not have a tablet, please contact our subscription team on +44 (0)20 7349 8472 or at and we can look to either arrange to have your current digital subscription turned into a print subscription or refund you. Also I’d like to point out our partners Pocket Mags do have the option to get the magazine in a pdf format for online viewing if on PC’s, Mac Books etc. which may be an option for you.

    Hi Al,
Can you please check that your automatic renewal with Apple has gone through correctly by following the below steps and checking that the renewal has been applied to your iTunes account
    • Go to the Settings tab on your iPad.
    • Click on the iTunes and App Store button on the left hand side.
    • Click on your Apple ID.
    • Then click on the Subscriptions button.
    • It will then show the subs you have through Apple
    • Then click on the Motor Sport subscription and it will then show you your sub status with Apple and how many issues you have left or if it is expired.

If you find that the renewal is all in order, please try deleting the App and reinstalling it – however note this will remove any previously downloaded magazines and they will then need to be re-downloaded.

I bought a bundled subscription to read DSJ’s reports and commentary from the beginning . Things went well until last year when your site’s format was changed. Now, though the original pages from 1957,say, are technically available, only the top part of the page can be accessed, since scrolling up or down on the page is no longer possible.

How can I once again have the ability to scroll all through a page? Let’s not even mention the poor Haymarket word recognition software that makes the new reprints of old articles laughably unreadable.

I am accessing using a Microsoft Surface Tablet.

    Thank you.

  30. Robert

Hi Lawrence, thank you for your message, our web editor has sent you an email asking for more details specifically to which articles/pages you are having problems with on the Archive so that we can look into this. We are aware that there are errors in the text recognition across a number of articles. To resolve this we currently have enlisted additional staff to work their way through each of the 1000 plus issues on the archive and correct any errors in each one. With this hopefully you find that the quality of article reproduction is improving all the time.

Hi, when do you plan to make this available on phones and/or PC?

It *seems* like it should be trivial to make it available on phones, since they are the same operating system as the tablets? I use Zinio on my phone, so larger-screen phones are completely fine for reading magazines when nothing else is available.

  32. Robert

Hi Roger, thank you for your message. We are currently in initial discussions with different providers that will allow us to offer our digital magazine across a number of other platforms, such as mobile and PC. As we are in the early stages of this project, I can’t comment to when this will be available, but it is certainly something we are looking into and want to offer our readers going forward. We will be sure to announce once we have this capability available.

The last G.P. review on my tablet is USA GP 2014. Why are these not being kept up. It was one of the features I liked with my Ipad issue and now no longer. I know there are other ways of getting the reviews and at the moment I am reading it on my laptop online. But that was such a neat way of doing it. I hope you can restore this. I can’t believe how daft this sounds, but here goes – are you saying that the digital edition is not available on PCs? The (hard copy) magazine is becoming full of telling the dear reader to look at the Digital Version for yet more good Motor Sport coverage; and it can’t be accessed via a PC, the device which most people have and which is most likely to have the best viewing medium? Really? Surely most subscribers would prefer to access via a decent-sized and top quality screen? Please tell me I’m wrong!

    on 9th April 2015 at 17:20
  46. Jack

    Hi Andrew,

We are investigating expanding onto more devices to make the digital magazine available to more people, but currently the app is only available on iPad and Android tablets for reading on the go. Unfortunately being a small team this development may take time, and the most important thing is to make sure it is the best possible experience for the readers. We will of course keep the readers updated with this project.

If you have further questions please email us at or call us on +44 (0)20 7349 8472.

    Hi Dave,

The digital copies of the magazines are all sold through Apple or Google, you should be able to buy each copy in the app and this does not need a Motor Sport account. The purchases are made through your Apple or Google account. You can create an account with us on the site here:, which will allow you to sign up for our newsletters, subscribe to the magazine, buy print copies of back issues and other products. I hope that helps, if not please email us at and we will assist you further.

Not sure where to start. Slow to down load even on a v fast connection.
I lost access to years of back issues I’ve paid for when I upgraded the app! Pop box to download back issues doesn’t work, send to another page asking same question again an still doesn’t work and even has spelling errors – quality control very poor.
Actual latest magazine is also poor – photos don’t scroll as meant to, long form articles are single clunky pages not page at a time so hard to scroll down to read. Short articles don’t it an IPad page either in portrait or landscape.
Finally archive feature is too close to download and subscribe buttons. Got confused when trying to find my back issues and touched Archive in error and immediately lost latest issue so had to spend another tens minutes downloading again – would prefer a second check on do you really want to delete this from your iPad!

I know today is day one of the new app guys but you took my money today ( and for many years previously) so no pats on the back for getting a poorly implemented app, out on time. Really need to do a better job.

By the way, what the hell does ‘previous magazines will be available soon’ in the FAQs. I’ve already paid for these and I haven’t read them all yet but now can’t read them with the new app. Seriously, how about you give me a subscription and I tell you the cheque’s in the post!

As a Bundle subscriber, I was most pleased to receive your 30 Oct. email announcing that the digital edition is now available on my desktop PC, which, if it matters, is running on a Win 7 Pro platform.

However, after 2 days of clicking the link “View the digital magazine now” in the aforementioned email, I arrive at ‘’ – a continual blank page. No login, nothing, no information of any sort. Clicking on the Digital Edition heading on the magazine’s home page brings me here to the FAQS page, again, no help.

What am I missing here? Are your servers overloaded – or is this announcement premature?

The latest app only works on an ipad with IOS 8 or later. I have IOS 7.2.1 and have not upgraded because IOS 8 takes up 5Gb of space and completely gums up ipad 2′s or earlier.
I now have 13 issues remaining of a bundle subscription where I am unable to read the digital edition on my ipad because the latest edition the app will allow me to download is the Graham Hill one. The latest edition is not available to me running IOS 7.2.1
    Thanks a bunch!

If I want to view them I’ll have to buy a new ipad!

Hi Chris, thank you for your feedback.
The recent Motor Sport app update and development has been undertaken to allow our readers the opportunity to read the digital magazine on multi devices and no longer just iPad and Android tablets. Readers can now access the digital magazine on their smartphone, and tablets, plus on desktop with subscriptions direct through Motor Sport.
Currently we have a small selection of back issues in the digital app available to read. We are working on getting all the previous digital magazines and more from the Motor Sport online archive to be available in the App itself ASAP. You will not lose access to any of the issues for which you have paid. As soon as these are available we will notify digital users, you will then be able to restore in App purchasers on your Apple device. We appreciate your patience on this and thank you for your feedback in regards to the app.

Hi Gordon, thank you for your message.
We are excited that our digital readers now have the opportunity to read their magazines on multi devices and no longer just iPad and Android tablets.
I’m sorry to hear you are having troubles accessing the desktop version of the magazine, you should be able to access this via – if this does not work, can you please advise what browser you are using?

This has meant we have had to launch a new app on iTunes which has seen us have to upgrade our app to be compatible with iOS 8. Your iPad is able to upgrade to iOS 8, however if you do not wish to upgrade your device for the reasons you mention of memory, you can access the digital magazine on your iPad and via this link using your web browser – you can also use this link to access the digital magazine on your desktop.
    I hope this helps.

Hi Robert, thanks for your timely reply.

I should have mentioned it initially but I am using Internet Explorer 11, all current with the latest Windows Update. And yes, is the link I am using with no success. I don’t get a 404 message, just a blank page, yet with your URL showing in the address bar.

I’m a pretty heavy desktop user and I must say this is an unusual occurrence for me. Could it be that an IE setting has to be changed for the site? If it matters, IE 11 was recently updated 13 Oct (KB3093983) but no other multimedia applications are giving me any grief.

    Hi Roger,

The digital edition should be available within the new app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Play Store. This new app can also be installed on your iPhone or Android smartphone, plus the magazine can be read on desktop at If you still cannot find or download the issue, please email for more assistance.

Spoke with iTunes app support and they are telling me to contact you for my issues. Since updating ios9 and your new app, ( the old app stopped working so I updated your app and it did not work , that’s when I updated to ios9 thinking that was the problem) However , now when I open the app it terminates right away or says there are no issues to display. I have deleted and reinstalled and restarted the device at least 10x to no avail. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

I have been reading the digital version of your magazine for some time on an old iPad but recently could not download the new edition and was advised to download new app after a lot of problems during this process when I open in newsstand it opens to the multi image pages as normal then moments later closes down. How do I solve this problem. Everything was fine until you asked me to download “new app” Frustrated and missing a god read.

I was just charged the monthly renewal by Apple on Nov 04 2015, but you seem to have lost my subscription/email/password so I can’t download anything.
    Please restore.

Hi Jim, Thank you for your message.
You do not need to login as such to the app as you subscribe direct though iTunes, on the app login page you are just required to tab the restore in app purchases. However we have identified that there is a problem with the restore in app purchaser’s button in the recent app update (unfortunately something we are unable to test before the app goes live). Our developers are working with Apple on fixing this as a matter of priority.

However you should be able to access the latest issue this month at the moment without the need to restore in app purchases, plus along with a selection of back issues. Please let me know if you are unable to access the ‘Latest issue’ and ‘Back Issues’ from the menu bar options.

We are working on getting all the previous digital magazines and specials to be available in the App itself ASAP. As the digital magazine is now available on both smartphones and tablets, the issues have had to be redesigned so that they are responsive to both formats. You will not lose access to any of the issues for which you have paid. As I’m sure you are aware there is a small selection of back issues in the digital app available to read at the moment, this will continue to expand to encompass all the back issues very shortly. We appreciate your patience while we undertake this project that encompasses over 1000 magazines.

After updating to the latest version of your app l have been unable to restore any of my previously purchased magazines. My purchases/subscriptions have been through iTunes and when l choose the restore in-app purchase, nothing happens. Do you have a timeframe from Apple for when this problem is going to be fixed?

The new app is a poor replacement as far as I am concerned.
Sorry, but navigation is convoluted, and time consuming.
Infuriatingly, the latest update means I cannot rotate my iPad 180 degrees as the digital edition of the magazine refuses to turn more than 90 degrees.
To get to website articles by, say, Nigel Roebuck, I must navigate through three screens.

Far less user friendly than previously.

I did send an earlier comment through ‘contact us’ but received no response. I don’t normally express disappointed but I really find the past two updates frustrating.

    Seasons greetings !!

I agree totally with George Purchase.
The new app is very slow, frustrating & annoying and a backwards step.
I cannot rotate the Ipad to allow viewing in Landscape mode (which before the latest app was updated “to fix issues”, l was able to do). Also as mentioned in a couple of previous posts by myself the restore in-app purchase option still does not appear to be working.

Both my earlier comments haven’t had a response either so at the moment l am not a very satisfied reader.

    Hi Robert,

We are investigating the rotation problem, it should be resolved in the next update.

I will also send you an email regarding the restore in-app purchases button, you should still be able to download all of the issues currently available in the app though.

If you close the page and go back to it you should be able to watch the video. It’s being streamed from YouTube so you will need an internet connection.
