Just as we were getting prepared to have Mario Andretti as our next podcast guest a call came through saying that Brian Redman also wanted to join us.
There’s no point in going over Redman’s career here as I am sure you’re all perfectly familiar with it. However, the 12 Hours of Sebring and Targa Florio winner is well known for telling a good story so you can imagine the delights that await both you and us here in the office.
So Andretti and Redman in a room together with Rob steering the chat and Nigel getting stuck in too. As you can imagine Damien and myself may be taking a step back from this one as our past exploits and stories will look relatively lame next to these two.

I would prefer to see Mario get his own podcast…. he could tell stories for hours… heck John Watson got a full podcast and no one outside of England has ever even heard of John Watson
agree with Michael, these two guys could each do their own podcast – too many stories! but I’ll take what I can get, no doubt we’ll be entertained.

I’d be interested to hear Brian’s thoughts on Rodruigez and Siffert. Pedro was renowned for being an eccentric, but I seem to remember Jo had a few foibles of his own…

Two greats from that shrinking demographic of drivers who started racing in the pre-commercial era. Which was also the pre-safety conscious era. Risked their lives for passion and glory. I suggest you cut two very big holes in their chairs so they can sit comfortably for all that time!
It would be great if you could bring them both in when (assuming) you discuss the Valencia tests.

hear hear Mario- having watched so many races some of the best haven’t been F1 but sports cars, especially when the big cats were around and we had that brief moment when pugs vs the cats vs the mers vs the porsche’s great- and before that the 917′s the 956′s etc great to hear more of that
Oh dear – where to start? 917s i n the wet with that other colossus of sportscar racing, Jacky Ickx? John Wyer as an employer and team manager? Paddock Bend at Brands in those cars?
And campaigning the beautiful Ferrari 312 albeit not always at the front – what was it like back in the garages and at Maranello?
For Mario, how was the Chapman relationship when winning in F1 but M was still racing elsewhere? And did he really get a full whack out of Lotus or did the sponsors make up his ‘wages’?

As regular visitors will be aware, I’ve been away for a week and when I came back last weekend I found I was unable to access the magazine website. Turns out to be a simple “issue” with the plugs in the modem, all sorted today by Glynn my computer mechanic.
So, anyway, hello again and what a year we are about to enjoy. Next weekend we will see Raikkonen on the Swedish rally and we will be able to ponder the resuklts of testing at Jerez.
If the Ferrari is as good as it looks thus far, the others should be concerned. But it’s far too early to say. We have not seen the new Red Bull yet…………
We will include as many of your points as possible when we podcast with Andretti and Redman, but I fear that Maruio will have so many great stories that the time will just disappear. Whatever, we think it will be a good show. Let’s hope so.
As an aside, i was impressed with the Russian chap in the Renault at Valencia…………intersting to have a new face, and the car must be adequate. Which means Kubica will be in the mix. Testing, though, can be such a red herring, as we know!
