The Patrick Head podcast

Due to a late change of plans, the Patrick Head podcast will be recorded on Friday May 21 rather than today. We’re very sorry for the delay, but we’re pretty sure this one will be worth waiting a couple of days for.

The good news is that this means there’s still time to ask him a question by clicking here.

Patrick is very smart, funny, cutting, frank/blunt.

I’m sure he’ll hold no punches.

Would love to hear his views on some of the following:

    - “JONES-REUT”
    - His views on Keke’s views on Mansell coming
    - Piquet V Mansell
    - Honda leaving for McLaren
    - Patrese’s early edge on Mansell
    - Prost
    - Senna
    - Damon giving way to Frentzen
    - JV in 1997
    - BMW
    - Juan Pablo or Webber or Nico … how would he rank these 3?

    Hi Patrick,

Putting aside your breathtaking comment that I’m sure i read somewhere that Nigel Mansell was you’re favourite WGPE driver, can you give us your impressions of Ayrton Senna from the brief period of time you had to work with him?

Seeing as how your partnership with Alan Jones was so strong between 1978-1981, why did he never drive for the team again after that? In 1984 you ran Laffite – who was never really in the same class – when Jones had come out of his premature retirement.

What was the real story behind FW16? In the early part of the season we were told that it was a difficult car to drive and set up. Then in the final race Damon (that bloke who really isn’t a good driver and all his success is down to the car) Hill nearly wins the World Championship.

Was the B version that much of an improvement?

    Caveats:

I really don’t believe that about Damon! And:

Patrick won’t be able to consult his solicitors, so don’t feel you have to talk about Benneton if you don’t want to!

How did the fuel starvation problems that robbed Jonesy of wins at Monaco and Hockenheim develop? Those problems never seemed to occur before 1981 on the FW07 and did the team regret moving back on to Goodyears that year as I can recall Jonesy being highly critical of them after Austria that year.

Hello Patrick…what do you remember of your Dad Michael’s exploits in the C Type Jag.Did he drag you along to any of the old classic European racetracks, and would I be right to assume that this was where the bug bit….?

    Hi Patrick,

In your opinion, what will it take to put Williams back to the top of F1, and is it realistic as other teams have progressed in the past 5 or 6 seasons since Williams have challenged for the championship?

Your old mate Frank Dernie reckons today’s cars have too much mechanical rather than aero grip and that the reason more overtaking takes place in wet races is the reduced mechanical grip. Do you think it is that or the reduced aero grip given that the cars are naturally slower in the wet and less able to generate as much downforce as they would in the dry? Would be interested in your thoughts.

R Tanveer’s questions are good ones.

A pint for every honest answer Patrick

    Ha ha!

I’m wondering if I can take Patrick (and Nigel Roebuck – or the journalist from Motor Sport who will be covering the Canadian GP) out to breakfast on Sunday morning June 13th?

I will be staying at the Queen Elizabeth hotel in ‘downtown’ Montreal.

I would be happy to treat them to a Kings breakfast!

    :)
