This video’s been around for a couple of weeks now, but just in case you haven’t seen it, we thought we’d give you a look. It’s that good.
Recently, Markus Winkelhock took an Audi R8 e-tron around the Nordschleife, setting a record time for an electric car at the legendary circuit. Winkelhock is perhaps most famous for leading the only Grand Prix he appeared in, driving a Spyker at the Nürburgring in 2007.
So if you’ve ever wondered what a banzai lap around the ‘Ring looks like, complete with a hairy moment or two, take a look.

Sorry, I don’t get it. So an electric roadcar is faster than any race car? Or faster than any road car?
…spooky….!
Not to put too fine a point on it, but that would, or might, be a
‘Ring record for a production electric car. There exists a long list of “supercars” with faster lap times.
Great save at Flugplatz! Please God, tell me that’s not to be the future sound of the sport in 20 – 25 year’s time, though…
No doubt technologically impressive and very well driven but where was the soul? It all felt so remote. Watching a lap on the Playstation3 is probably more entertaining. Why? The noise, the noise! Can’t have serious motorsport without the scream of an engine. It’s like a “Full English” without the bacon.
This is how going round the Nordschleife should sound.

Very interesting film clip, however I then went and watched the DVD In Car 956, Derek Bell in a Porsche 956 going around the same circuit, no comparison really!
Nice, not awesome, just modernly unemotional.
With no acoustic feedback from the engine growling and roaring, thus taking away the pleasure of hearing and feeling that interacting with the ‘other part’ entails?!
Akin to having sex with no feedback from your partner… Mmmh, naaah not for Motoring please…
Modern technology?, not that way please…
That terrified me. Mr Winkelhock is a madman!
