The P.& M. Panthette

Sir, With reference to Mr. Stott’s letter in the February issue of Motor Sport, ” Panthette Memories,” and his query regarding production. I was with Phelon and Moore at the material time and if my memory serves me well, from about 1927 for a period of about 18 months just over 200 Panthettes were produced and sold.

I would like to add to previous remarks as to the advanced design, the beautiful way these machines were built, all the internal parts being fully machined, so reducing oil drag, which along with the light weight of the parts gave the machine wonderful acceleration. There was one weakness in the design, which was never really overcome, and that was to get an adequate supply of oil to all the various parts of the engine and gearbox unit, although various pumps and feeds were tried.
