F5000 decider at Phillip Island

The destiny of the Formula 5000 Trans Tasman Revival Series will be decided during the annual Phillip Island Classic meeting at the Melbourne circuit in Australia on March 8/9.

After four recent rounds in New Zealand, the fifth and final event will settle the battle between the McRae GM1 of Chris Hyde and the Lola T430 of veteran Ken Smith. Having narrowly beaten Smith in all three races at Taupo, Hyde has a 20-point lead going to Australia.

Chris Amon, who lives at nearby Kinloch, was spectating at Taupo. “I couldn’t stay away,” he said. “It’s great to see the cars out there again and being used very enthusiastically.”
