Sir, In the ” General Notes ” of ” Club News ” in your June issue a 12/50 side valve Alvis is mentioned. Intrigued by this phenomenon I turned back to a 1925 general catalogue to find that Alvis made a 12/40 fixed-head side-valve, and a 12/50 detachable-head o.h.v. of slightly less capacity. Apart from the engines, both models are otherwise similar with (in 1925) optional front brakes, being . . . delightful examples of the British sporting car, which appeals primarily on
