The Hartlepool Speed Trials, for cars and motor-cycles, start at 2 p.m. on August 2nd. Entries for the Ulster Trophy Scratch Race on August 9th include Gerard, Harrison, Abecassis, Brooke and Bolster (E.R.A.s), “Bira” and Whitehead (E.R.A. or Maserati), Mortimer (Maserati), Woodall (Delage), Baring (Riley), and Williams (Alta). Spectators should be at the course well before 10.30 a.m. Entries are also coming in well for the B.R.D.C. Isle of Man races on August 21st. Donations from K. W. Purdy (New York) and Charles Bayly (S. Australia) brings the total of the Motor Sport Brooklands Fund to £20 11s. 6d. 1 1/2-litre Alfa-Romeos finished 1, 2, 3,in the Bari G.P., driven, respectively, by Varzi, Sarresi and Balestero.

Warmest congratulations to Lt.-Col. Gardner, who has raised the International Class 1 absolute speed record with his 500-c.c. M.G. (running on four cylinders) to 118.7 m.p.h. (126 m.p.h. one way). Gardner used Lucas electrical equipment, Lodge Plugs and Dunlop tyres.

F.t.d. at the Bouley Bay hill-climb was made by Raymond Mays (E.R.A.), the runner-up being Abecassis’ Bugatti. Gordon Bennett in an Allard made fastest sports-car time. Fastest lady was Mrs. Wisdom (Jaguar).

L. J D. Bartlett beat all the racing cars at the Hants. & Berks. M.C. Speed Trial at Burghfield on July 26th, making f.t.d. in 23.5 sec. in his Mercury-Special. Second fastest was Emery’s Hudson Special in 24.0 sec.
