British Motor Racing Marshals Club

Plans are going ahead to hold a race meeting at Silverstone early next year (March 13th) after a lapse of a couple of years from event promotion. The meeting which was scheduled for early this year had to be cancelled due to a lack of support from competitors, which was a rather unpleasant way to say “thank you” to the club which makes motor racing on Britain’s circuits as safe as any in the world. The secretary of the club is Jack Ledgard, 51, Shenley Road. Bletchley, Milton Keynes, MK3 6HE and he is always interested to hear from anyone contemplating taking up marshalling. Enquiries about the race meeting should be addressed to Tony Bird at 4, Sunnyside, Kingsclere, Newbury, Berkshire.

Motor Cycling Club

This long-established club will be holding its 80th Annual General Meeting at the Sparrowhawk, Glengall Road, Edgware on August 27th at 7.00 p.m. Despite the heavy increases in restrictive regulations over the past few years, the club manages to make its three Classic Trials, the Exeter, the Lands End and the Edinburgh, very challenging and enjoyable events and regulations for the 59th Edinburgh Trial on October 3rd are now available from John Walken, 51 Little Bushey Lane, Bushey, Watford, Herts.

Airedale & Pennine Motor Car Club

On June 20th, this club organised the north eastern regional final of the Corgi Young Driver of the Year Championship. Using Metros provided by BL Cars Ltd., the young drivers, ranging in age from 13 to 16, were due to complete eight autotest style contests, but after only three had been completed it became apparent that the competitors were finding the competition too easy, making it necessary to tighten-up courses for the remainder. Even so, after six tests were completed, fourteen of the forty entrants still had clean sheets. At the end of the competition, after the last two tests had been made really difficult, four competitors tied with 20 penalties each. These four then did the final test again, against the clock, the result going to Ian Abraham (16) of Nottingham.

Sunbeam Tiger Owners Club

The current issue of Cat’s Whiskers, the STOC’s periodical, provided the editorial office with some very amusing lunch-time reading. There is an interesting article about Malcolm Sears, who used to race Tigers in the sixties, and a fascinating piece on setting up Holley carburetters. Plans are afoot to hold an International Weekend for Tiger owners and enthusiasts throughout the world, in September next year. The Cornish resort of Looe has been selected for the base, but planning cannot start in earnest until the organisers know what kind ol support they will be getting – the man to contact is John Day, 16 Bradford Street, Eastbourne, Sussex.
