Not Silverstone as we know it

Sir, I visited Silverstone with a group of friends and relatives to watch the FIA GT1 World Championship round. Although the grids were

small the racing was excellent, and the sound of those big engines was magnificent.

However, we were all quite saddened because Silverstone seems to have lost its character. I was introduced to motor racing by my parents, who attended regularly from the first Grand Prix, and I competed in single-seaters on both the Club and GP circuits in the ’80s. But now it could be any circuit in the world. With the startline moved and grandstands gone, and the revised track layout and new Wing complex, the track feels alien. I’m certain the racing will be just as good, but perhaps we have too many memories of Silverstone finishes out of Woodcote Corner.
