Miniatures news, December 1962

The latest gambit in the race for car miniatures sales is beautifully fitted transparent sliding windows. These are found on a very fine Meccano Dinky Toys model (No. 198-6s. 11d.) of the Rolls-Royce Phantom. V, measuring 4 15/16 in. in length. Models of Rolls.–Royce cars have always been Much sought after since Lines Bros. introduced a big tin-plate version in the ’30s, and the demand for the present excellent Dinky Toys version with plated fittings should be heavy. This follows on the Dinky M.G.-B with opening doors, described last month.

Dinky have also followed Corgi with a Jaguar Mk. X, the boot of which opens to reveal a removable case and Valise. This model is 44,, in. long, is No. 142, and costs 5s. 6d. We now await a Super model with sliding windows, opening boot, openable bonnet and doors you can open, all On the same miniature! Certainly with their doors and windows Dinky are retrieving lost ground, fast! For their roadways they have added a police-controlled crossing (No. 753).

Corgi have a Cadillac ambulance (No. 437) with real flashing roof-light, battery-fed, and a very elaborate and strong Circus Horse Transporter with six horses, towed by a Bedford tractor unit„ in their Corgi Major series (No. 1130). Then, in their Playcraft ” Aurora ‘ plastic kit series, there is a very detailed Jaguar E-type coupe for home assembly. It is to 1/25th-scale, includes cockpit., body and suspension details even to a rear-view Mirror, wire wheels, knock-off hubs and detailed engine, and costs  4s. 6d. Christmas is coming !

Finally, for this month, there is the Corgi Major No. 1105 Bedford-Carriniore Car Transporter, no leas than toi in. long, with seats, steering wheel, mirror, and detachable trailer with working jacks to raise the upper deck, and, of Course, ” Glidamatie ‘ suspension throughout. This fine model costs 195. std.
