Racing Drivers’ Club. Hot on the heels of the surprise resignation of the club’s President, Lord Hesketh, comes news of further dissent among the ordinary rank-and-file members.

Hesketh resigned the presidency in October after failing to come to agreement with the BRDC board over the restructuring of the club following the long-running takeover bid by Brands Hatch Leisure boss Nicola Foulston.

Hesketh said: “I cannot agree with the part of the proposed restructure which precludes share ownership to the members. I believe it is not in the interests of the Club to have a disunited board and I have no intention of being such an impediment… Though differences may exist, I am wholly supportive of the board’s resolute and correct resistance of the purported Brands Hatch Leisure proposal to members.” Hesketh and the board’s stout opposition to the Foulston bid does not, however, have the backing of all at the BRDC. In a letter to members, former saloon car racer Sir John Whitmore, representing the Business Working Group, has opposed the recommendations of the board. Whitmore states that the BWG is keen to reach a majority agreement with members that over-rides the board’s proposals and accepts BHL:s offer of .£43million, albeit for a shorter lease of 25 years. MW
