The return of the Double Twelve

The Brooklands Motoring Festival is to feature a competition named after the famous Double Twelve meetings run by the Junior Car Club from 1929. The event, on June 28-29, will combine a Concours d’Elegance and a series of driving tests.

The Brooklands Double Twelve was created as a solution to complaints about the noise of the circuit’s proposed 24-hour race, with cars in the Double Twelve running for 24 hours over two days in order to avoid night racing. In these events the elegance of the car (and indeed its crew!) was seen as equally important to the skill of its drivers.

As with the Brooklands Centenary Festival of last year, cars and motorcycles from the Brooklands era will feature, but there will also be classes for more modern classics. In addition, there will be displays from the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows Team, Formula 1, Formula 3 and other modern cars.
