Waxen' lyrical
The results for the 1000Km of the Nürburgring of 1957 show that a certain Erich Waxenberger took third place in the GT category driving a Mercedes 300SL. He worked for the legendary Rudolph Uhlenhaut in the test…
Condition immaculate, splendid, us new,
Outstanding, magnificent, clean,
Its mileage is genuine (very small, too),
A bargain that should be seen.
Mechanically sound, a nice runner, new tyres,
In superb condition throughout,
It’s been laid up for years (if the vendors aren’t liars),
With coachwork quite spotless, no doubt.
Terms are arranged and payment deferred,
Exchanges are made, if desired;
Its guarantee (written) may be seen, not just heard,
And its licence has not yet expired.
In fact it’s colossal, stupendous, divine,
A motorist’s fond, rosy dream;
But beware, reader dear, though it sounds very fine,
Adverts. aren’t always QUITE what they seem.
