"Challenge"

“Challenge—The Story of Canadian Road Racing”, by Len Coates. 159 pp. 9 in. x 5 7/8 in. Soft covers. (Progressive Publications (1970) Inc., Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. $2.95.)

This is a notable addition to regional racing histories, written in too “popular” a style, but showing us the trend of Canadian road racing from the days when you could race TD and earlier MGs to last season. Stirling Moss at Mosport in 1961, racing before 40,000 spectators, is recalled, but Moss may not care for the author’s description of him: “There’s a certain magic in that name, even now”! But Len Coates may well have troubles of his own, his little paperback being dedicated to “Yvonne, who can’t stand the noise, the heat or the smells…”—W. B.
