VSCC Trophies settled at Cadwell

The Cadwell Park circuit near Louth is well suited to vintage racing, and offers good viewing, with the exciting hill-section. Dry conditions made the VSCC last visit doubly enjoyable. The big race was for the Shutdeworth & Nuffield Trophies, won at 70.11mph by Spencer Flack’s 1952 Cooper-Bristol, Ted Dunn’s Riley taking the Nuffield Trophy in a close finish, only 0.48sec behind after a fastest of the day lap of 71.42. Bill Morris’ ERA R12C was some way behind but held off Ricketts’ ERA GP1.

The meeting opened with James Baxter winning the Frazer Nash/GN Handicap, Clive Woolley’s 1928 Bentley won the Melville Trophy race, Hemandez’s fast A7 the Spero and Voiturette Trophies event, Tim Llewellyn’s Bentley the Holland Trophy race, while that very good driver Julian Majzub in his 1927 Bugatti took the prestigious Williams Trophy contest The winners of the supporting races were Tim Rides (Wolseley), two races, Peter Livesey (Alvis) and Kevin Hilton (Riley).
