Dreoilin specialist republications Ltd of County Meath, Ireland, have published Jim Cooke’s John Boyd Dunlop (ISBN 1 902 773 10 1, £4.50). It is most informative about the tyre pioneer, and should interest historians of cycling as well as cars. David Knowles has written a book about the MGF for Haynes Modem Sportscar series (ISBN 1 85960 637 7). It is truly comprehensive, its 144 pages dealing with every aspect of this hydragas survivor of the famous British sportscar marque. It is a book to appeal to car stylists and to students of the subject, as well as to historians. The development of the MGF is described in detail, starting with the mid-engined PR3 prototype developed by Rover, featuring hitherto unpublished colour photographs and design sketches, the 942bhp record bid EX253 and EX255 and EX254 super-sportscar concept. Fascinating. Price: £17.99.
