Pane is Historic F1 king

Italian racer Mauro Pane has been confirmed as FIA Historic Formula 1 Champion in his six-wheel Tyrrell P34. With a continuous run of seven class wins through the bulk of the season, Pane (left) finished the season comfortably clear of his nearest rival, the Matra MS120 of Brazilian racer Abba Kogan.

Pane, who prepares a range of F1 cars for customers under the F1 Storiche banner, raced the ex-Patrick Depailler chassis owned by Italian Piero Ratti and topped his season with a memorable overall win at Monza.

Initially, Bobby Verdon-Roe’s McLaren M26 looked like being Pane’s big class B rival, but he was sidelined for much of the season after a major accident at Monaco.
