Cars In Books

KEN FIDGEN of the STD Register, has sent me the following for this column:

Here is a “Cars in Books” reference for you if it has not already .cropped up in the past. Cecil B. eaton In “My Bolivian Aunt A memoir” (Weidenfeld and Nicolson) writes: … “Her hats alone caused a sensation in London though they were difficult to manoeuvre whenever she went out in her open carriage. When Welby, the driver who now became chauffeur, appeared at the wheel of the new Sunbeam with its canework body, lots of highly polished brass-fittings, and an inconveniently low roof, the situation became even more fraught.” The hats belonged to Uncle Percy’s wife and the date at the beginning of the chapter is tgoz. This is the only reference unfortunately. Presumably this would ..have been a 1904 or later-model Sunbeam, perhaps a 12/16.
