British GP Preview

The Grand Prix at Silverstone is the only chance nowadays for the British enthusiast to see Formula One cars in action in this country. As such it is one of our major sporting events requiring the organisation and logistics of an army. Many spectators make a week of it and are prepared to camp, while others go for the day, some on practice to avoid the huge crowds, others only on race day, some lucky enough to be flown in to avoid the traffic snarl ups. Full updates on traffic details on the motorways and the roads surrounding Silverstone will be given on Radio Northampton on 104.2/103.6 FM or 1107 Medium Wave when approaching the county.

For those coming by rail the two main railway stations nearest to Silverstone Circuit are Northampton and Milton Keynes and a special bus service will be available from Northampton’s Greyfriars Bus Station to Silverstone.

For the second year running, special trains will operate from London-Euston to Milton Keynes via Watford Junction on all three days. In addition to this, another special train will be in operation from Birmingham-New Street to Northampton via Coventry on Saturday and Sunday only. Details of times and costs can be obtained from the Silverstone Booking Office (0327 857273).
