The appliance of non-science

Sir,

Oh dear, oh dear. What is all the commotion in the United States between the Indy Car World Series and the Indy Racing League?

CART, and the teams in the World Series, are all claiming that their championship is superior: that the Indy 500 was a non-event without them Yet their own, clashing, US 500 saw Mauricio Gugelmin and Roberto Moreno on the podium! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I distinctly remember these two drivers drifting inexorably into ‘has-been’ status long before they quit Europe and went to play out the ends of their careers in America.

For heaven’s sake, it even looked as though Andre Ribeiro a man who couldn’t win a British F3 race in three years of trying was going to succeed at Michigan. Conclusion? Even if the World Series is stronger than the IRL, it Still isn’t even as competitive as a national Formula Three series in Europe. So let’s ignore them both

Congratulations You have just won the Nobel Prize for Imprecise Science. Would one argue that Olivier Beretta was more gifted than Damon Hill, because he has won a Formula 3000 race? Or that York City are a better learn than Manchester United, having dumped them out of soccer’s Coca-Cola Cup last season? The only conclusion one should draw is that life is Pleasantly weird SA
