You were there...

Howden Ganley: leading international racing driver, race car constructor, team owner, team manager, mechanic, instructor, journalist, former BRDC director, chairman of Maidenhead Golf Club… Add to that little lot: pretty respectable photographer. The versatile Kiwi sent us these photos taken in 1962 and ’63, shoertly after he had arrived in the UK. “The photographs show just how close an ordinary enthusiast could get to the cars in those days. I had no special pass: I just paid at the gate and ducked around officialdom until I got to a location to photograph.”

Howden had taken shots at home: “I remember hiding behind one of the drums that marked the inside of the circuit at Ardmore and sticking the camera out. Great shots, but Denny Hulme said to me, ‘You are going to get run over if you keep doing that.'”
