Class Group C field for support race

What’s thought to be one of the best Group C race entries since the category ended in the ’90s will line up for the support race at the Le Mans 24 Hours, topped by two Mercedes, four Nissans and three Lancias.

Among the 32 entries is the man behind the current success of the category, Bob Berridge. Alongside the Sauber Mercedes C9 he has fielded for Gareth Evans, Berridge will campaign an ex-Schumacher C11. Unfortunately, the fresh car was damaged in a testing crash at Donington, but Berridge says it will be ready for the race. “We’ve got the bits to fix it,” he said after the car spun into the wall on the exit of the chicane.

The hour-long Group C race will run on the Saturday morning ahead of the start of the classic 24-hour contest on June 16. The strong Nissan entry includes the R9OCK of Steve Tandy, which was damaged at the start of the Donington race, but it will be repaired in time.

A trio of Lancia LC25 will be raced by Roger Wills, Rupert Clevely and Henrik Lindberg and Porsche will be represented by some six cars from the 956/962 dynasty.

Among the Group C2 field will be French veteran Pierre-Francois Rousselot in a Spice 5E89. The former F3 racer contested the 24-hour race 10 times in the 1970s and ’80s.
