Split rear seats

Sir,

Very little is ever completely new in design — in 1950 or 1951, probably 1951, Earls Court show car, the Harold Radford “Countryman” on Bentley Mk. VI chassis, seating three across the rear seat, was fitted with asymmetrically divided rear cushions and squabs, with sequential power operation to both sides allowing either or both to fold forward to provide additional luggage accommodation.

This was the first time that I had designed seats quite like this, but I would not be prepared to say that there had not been similar previous designs by other designers.
