Dallara it's a beautiful story

by Guido Schittone

Part biography, part corporate brochure, part homage to the corner of rural Italy where Dallara is based, Guido Schittone’s dual-language tome is an interesting oddity. It begins not with the man but with the place – Varano de’ Melegari in the region of Emilia-Romagna – and seeks to set what follows in the context of the area’s unique character.

F1 doyen Pino Allievi contributes an interesting biographical interview with Dallara himself, ranging from his early days as an apprentice to Carlo Chiti at Ferrari to becoming a multi-disciplined race car constructor in his own right.

After running through all of Dallara’s cars the book goes behind the scenes at the factory for its second half.

This is a charmingly scattershot book, though the spatial constraints imposed by the dual-language format mean it is perhaps less detailed than completists would like. SC
