"Early Motor Cars,"

by George A. Oliver. 14 pp. 14 in. s: 18 3/4 in. (Hugh Evelyn Ltd., 9, Fitzroy Square, London, W. 1. 63s.)

Here is another of those enormous acreages of pictorial presentation with which Hugh Evelyn have startled collectors and bookshops. The third of the series covering early cars, it deals with those of 1894-1904, the veterans, in Oliver’s inimitable text style, each car, from 7.9-h.p. Peugeot Victoria to 11.2-h.p. Rolls-Royce phaeton, twelve in all including Mercedes Forty rear-entrance tonneau and Krieger Electric landaulette, being depicted by one of Oliver’s fine colour side-views so favoured by TV producers for framed background illustrations. The colour seems to suit these frail early primitives particularly well and no doubt many other people besides the television studio decorators will frame them—they are on good quality paper, unbacked, obviously with this in mind. Certainly this is a lavish luxury production.—W.B.
