Regular use of the older cars

Sir,

I am concerned about the diminishing number of vintage and post-vintage vehicles to be found in regular daily use. This situation is an open invitation to politicians to ban old vehicles altogether or to weekend events only.

As a confirmed all-the-year-round user of a pre-war vehicle (without any serious running problems), if it is solely a question of cost, may I recommend owners at least to tax only their old vehicles during the summer months, using their usual modern car for the rest of the year?

Britain is unique in interest and attitudes to vintage vehicles: this will only last if vintage motorists fully use the present existing freedoms.
