Potent Line-Up for the unlimited sports-car race at Castle Combe. On the front grid, left to right, are G. Abecassis (H.W.M), R. Salvadori (Maserati) and J. Steward (Jaguar. No. 3 position would have accommodated T. Sopwith’s Sphinx had he not scratched.

A. And M. — Going away from Beckett’s Corner on the club circuit at Silverstone. Laurence Pomeroy, in the Prince Henry Vauxhall, momentarily leads an XK120 coupé during the Pomeroy Memorial Trophy Meeting.

Win For A Buckler, by a good margin, in the 1,200-c.c. class. G. Tapp is seen here cornering at Quarry BEnd. His time of 8 min. 26.2 sec. for the 9.2 miles gives an average speed of 65.46 m.p.h.

Cornering Technique. — Demonstrated by P. Jopp in the sleek Emeryson. With its orthodox front engine and normal position cock[it, it looks like a scaled down Grand Prix car.

Semi-Streamlined. — The aerodynamic front of R. Bicknell’s Norton-engined Bevis is blended into the more orthodox body-styling of the rear half. it proved fast enough to win one heat and tthe final of the 500-c.c. event at Castle Combe.

Double at Castle Combe. — R. Salvadori in Greene’s sports Maserati, scored wins in the 2 1/2-litre and unlimited Sports-car races at the M.C. and L.C.C. meeting.

Hands Off. — Head gives his C-type Jaguar its head as he gets away from the starting line, a little behind J. A. Keeling in a similar car. Only 0.30sec. separated their best times at the W.E.C.C. Speed Trials.

Thirsty Motor. — The beautiful silver and blue Hispano-Suiza of P. Hampton is said to have consumed nine gallons of fuel during the one-hour High-speed Trial at the V.S.C.C. Silverstone meeting.

In The Lead. — R. Watling-Greenwood, seen here in his Ford-engined R. W.G., is nos leading by one point in the Brooklands Memorial Trophy after the first B.A.R.C. Members’ Meeting of this season.

Minor Trouble. G. H. Williamson’s Riley-engined Morris – Minor was running well in the closed-car event at the B.A.R.C. Member’s Meeting at Goodwood, only to experience internal trouble and be over-taken by K.S. Moore’s Renault in easy style.

Out Of The Chicane. Michael W. Head seen here driving his XK120C Jaguar at the first B.A.R.C. Members’ Meeting at Goodwood.

Always An Attraction. — The M.G. engine used last year is now fitted to Peter Gammon’s Lotus, which now shares second place in the running for the Brooklands Memorial Trophy at Goodwood. So far this season, this neat little car has shown consistently good form in the capable hands of its owner.

On Show. — No disputing what engine is sued in the Cooper works car, driven by L. Leston at the West Essex C.C. Speed Trials at Wethersfield. We won the 500-c.c. class with at time of 29.97 sec. for the kilometre.

Pipped On The Post. — C. J. Hamilton’s elderly E.R.A. so nearly won the Third Easter Handicap at Goodwood but Tony Rolt in Rob Walker’s Connaught got home 0.6 sec. ahead. Parnell’s Ferrari was third.

The Avenue. — The field well strung out after taking Old Hall Corner, in the first heat of the British Empire Trophy meeting at Oulton Park. The leading cars have already reached Cascades, the corner leading into the new extension of the circuit.

Speedy Lotus, plus the driving ability of Peter Gammon, earned a worthy third place in the British Empire Trophy event, with an average spped of 67.92 m.p.h. for the 30 laps of the 2.23 mile circuit/ Gammon won the 1,500-c.c. class.

Rounding Cascades, — R. Salvadori cutting the sandbank close in his successful attempt to regain the time lost owing to his collision with Brown’s Cooper-Bristol. He pressed on, driving extremely well to win his head, and in the final was placed second.

Duel In The Park. — The close racing between D. Hamilton (No.45) and N. Sanderson (No. 52) in heat three was continued in the final, when they crossed the line with only 0.01 sec. separating them. Here they are about to dive into Deer Leap, one of the many exciting points of this real road-racing circuit.
