Miniatures news, May 1963

The Tiatsa Model Car Museum in Stratford-on-Avon was opened by Lord Montagu on April 11th. This museum contains over 3,000 model cars collected by Tiber Reich and his young sons, and shows the development of the motor car from a steam-driven French car of 1760 to modern vehicles. We intend to report on this museum in due course.

A reader at Potters Bar has made a fine model of the 1907 aero-engined Fiat “Mephistopheles” to a scale of 1 in. = 1 ft.— see accompanying picture.

Of new commercial models, Corgi have a Gift Set (No. 17) of a Mk. II Land-Rover towing a F.1 V6 Ferrari on a trailer, price l0s. 6d., a Corgi Kit making up into a Motel Chalet with great detail (price 3s. 11d.), and a Smith’s “Mister Softee” Ice Cream van on a Commer chassis (No. 428-6s. 4d.). Dinky Toys have introduced a Cooper racing car (No. 240) with detachable engine cover, revealing a replica Climax V8 engine, while Lesney’s latest “Matchbox” miniature is a 2 1/2-in.-long replica of a Ford Zephyr Six, priced at 1s. 9d.—W.
