A Bad Mini

Sir,

In your February issue there was an interesting eulogy from a reader concerning his 1275 c.c. Mini, a make and type of motor car which I had the misfortune to buy new in 1973. In under 6,000 miles the engine has been taken out twice and the car has spent almost as much time in the workshops as it has done on the road. Every conceivable thing that could go wrong with it, drop off it, has obliged and of the several vehicles that I have owned only the Carden, the Belsize-Bradshaw, and the single push-rod Sahnson gave me more trouble. In my opinion the car is not only poorly equipped but most shoddily assembled and I greatly regret having forsaken the reliable Renault in a mistaken outburst of patriotism. Never again!

It is only fair to say that if and when everything works it is one of the safest cars that I have ever driven, and quite nippy too.
