Cooper Car Club

Plans are afoot to form a Club or Register for owners and enthusiasts for Cooper cars and the many derivatives. Already support has come from Cooper drivers of old like Eric Brandon and Alan Brown. The activities of John Cooper and his father range from simple JAP engined 500s, through big sports cars to Formula One cars, as well as various road cars. Co-ordinator for this proposed new club is Grahame Fleming, 16 Queen Elizabeth’s Walk, Wallington, Surrey, England, who will be pleased to hear from anyone interested in joining or helping.

MG Car Club, V8 Register

Of the many Registers within the MG Car Club, that catering for the owners of the V8 engined B GT models must be one of the smallest, but this, by no means, implies any lack of activity. Founded towards the end of 1978, the register has its own regular social meetings, a strong and very useful spares scheme and, perhaps most valuable of all, publishes very detailed workshop notes in the main club’s monthly magaine, Safety Fast. The first fifty of these workshop notes have been brought together in a handy, spiral bound book and these will be available to members at £5.50, or to non-members at £7.50. Register secretary is Victor Smith, 14 The Mall, East Sheen, London SW14 7EN.

The Bugatti Owners Club

In addition to catering for the needs of the many enthusiasts for Monsieur Ettore Bugatti’s products, the Bugatti Owners Club runs a series of hill climb meetings at their Cotswold headquarters, Prescott Hill, near Cheltenham. This year, the twisting hill, which once was the front drive to Prescott House, will be host to two rounds of the National Hill Climb Championship, as well as to rounds of the more local, but similarly prestigious, Midlands Hill Climb Championship and to less formal, Club events. One such, which promises to be good value for the Classic Car enthusiast, is the meeting to be held on June 6th and 7th, where there will be classes for sports and racing cars, subdivided into two groups, pre-war and post war to 1964. It is also intended to hold a special parade of 30/98 Vauxhalls, many of which will also be competing in the pre-war sports car class. Secretary of the Meeting is Pat Preston, Deep Mill Lane, Great Missenden, Bucks.

Tayford Trophy Magazine

In Scotland, three independent clubs, the 750 Motor Club (Scotland), the Arbroath and District Motor Club and the 55 Car Club, share many of each other’s events, thus maintaining a high level of activity for their members at the same time as keeping the burden on volunteer organisers to a minimum. Throughout the year, members compete in a series of events for the Tayford Trophy, an inter-club challenge award, and the activities are chronicled in entertaining style in another joint venture, the monthly Tayford Trophy Magazine. One of the larger meetings this year, the Tayford Trophy Fintry Hill Climb, will be organised in conjunction with the Aberdeen and District Motor Club and takes place on May 10th.
