Back-to-back Monaco and Pau Street spectaculars

For lovers of street racing, May offers a feast, with two spectacular Gallic meetings. A superb array of many of the world’s leading historic cars will be in action during the third Monaco Historic Grand Prix, which will be held over the weekend of May 18/19, a week before the 60th Monaco Grand Prix.

For the 3-litre F1 entry, the organisers have selected a field of 32 cars representing the race in period. French legend Henri Pescarolo, third in the 1970 Monaco GP in a Matra MS120, will be reunited with a similar car, while Dane Tom Belso will return to the cockpit of a Williams FW03 for the event. The seven-race weekend includes races for preand post-war sportscars.

Some racers say that the streets of Pau offer an even greater challenge. Certainly, the Grand Prix Historique (May 25-26) is growing in stature and gives three major historic series a street race in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The Historic Grand Prix Cars Association, the FORCE Classic GP Series and the European Sports Prototype Trophy will produce stunning spectacles at this historic venue.
