A new event for racing cars that competed at Brooklands has been added to the line-up for this year’s Goodwood Revival meeting.

The Brooklands Trophy is expected to feature pre-1939, big-capacity cars including Bentley Specials, Alfa Romeo Monopostos and 8C Monzas, Bugattis, Delahayes and Sunbeams.

When the Goodwood circuit was opened after WWII, one of its aims was to recreate the spirit of Brooklands. Freddie March, the grandfather of the present Earl of March who owns the Goodwood track and estate, competed regularly at Brooklands and won the Double 12 race in 1931 in his MG Midget C-Type.

A Goodwood spokesperson said: “Having Brooklands-type racing cars on the historic Goodwood circuit is certain to make a gripping spectacle.”

The Brooklands Trophy will be one of 14 races spread over the Saturday and Sunday of the Revival Meeting which takes place on September 3-5.

For the first time, spectator entry will be limited to purchasers of advance tickets only. Sales are already reported to be at record levels.
