Patrick Nève

The first driver signed by Williams Grand Prix Engineering, Patrick Nève has died aged 67. Nève worked at the Jim Russell Racing School before winning the 1974 STP FF1600 title. In F3 he raced the one-off Safir in the UK’s BP series, winning one race and finishing second in the Monaco GP support. After F1 appearances with RAM Brabham and Ensign in 1976, he joined Frank Williams’ new GP team, scoring a seventh at Monza. After a DNPQ in a self-entered March at Zolder in 1978, he later enjoyed success in saloon car racing. 

David Render

David Render, who died recently aged 92, was one of Britain’s leading speed event drivers. He started competing in sprints in the late 1940s and
was twice British champion in the 1980s. Noted for competing in Lotus Grand Prix cars as a result of his friendship with Colin Chapman, he supported the sport by sponsoring the championship through his Warecrete business.
