A Ashton Rigby

We are saddened to learn of the death of Aubery Ashton Rigby, of Burgess Hill, Sussex, who raced MG cars at Brooklands and elsewhere before the war. He drove his MG Magna in the 1934 Ulster TT, but failed to finish. At Brooklands he won the Junior Short Handicap in his blue L-type MG Magna at the 1933 Inter-Club Meeting, lapping at nearly 81 mph, and was twice placed third in races at the full-scale BARC race meetings that year. He followed this with an excellent win at the 1934 August Brooklands Meeting, lapping at almost 96 mph in the 1087cc MG to win the Esher Junior Short Handicap, undeterred by a terrific spin in the very wet LCC Relay Race beforehand, when he hit one of the barriers. At the opening 1936 races at Brooklands Ashton Rigby won another race, in spite of a re-handicap. With his passing we have lost another connection with the world of MG and racing at the Track, but he is clearly remembered. WB
