The last word? No, because Murray’s own reminiscences will eventually be with us. Maybe this book should instead have been called ‘Murray Walker — the last word but one”.

Presumably Walker’s own forthcoming effort is the reason why there is no input from the man himself in this book. But most leading figures from his commentating career have been interviewed.

There are few of the revelations that we might expect from a biography, but to give Hilton his due, the subject matter doesn’t help. After all, there are no real secrets concerning Murray Walker, surely the ultimate heart-on-sleeve enthusiast.

It’s an affectionate (would you expect anything else?) look, at Walker’s life, accompanied by some surprisingly good archive photos and, of course, plenty of those infamous `Colemanballs’. MS
