New-look calendar for 2014

The 2014 British Grand Prix was given a date of July 6 on a provisional Formula 1 calendar circulating during the recent Italian GP weekend, prior to ratification by the World Motor Sport Council at the end of September.

The 21-race draft included new or revived races in Austria (June 22), Russia (October 19) and Mexico (November 9). There was no sign of the financially troubled New Jersey fixture, although the race could yet find a slot.

Momentum has been building behind a return to an upgraded Mexico City track. Among those involved is Tavo Hellmund, the Austin founder who was subsequently ousted from the project.

Hellmund’s late father was a close Ecclestone associate and was involved with an earlier incarnation of the event.
