Sir,

With regard to Moss versus Clark in your ‘Uncrowned Duels’ feature (August issue), the most telling comparison was at the 1961 German GP at the Niirburgring: Moss in the Rob Walker Lotus-Climax, Clark in the Team Lotus-Climax. Practice: Moss 9min 01:7sec, Clark 9min 08.0sec. Race: Moss 9min 01.0sec, Clark 9min 0’7.2sec. Result: Moss first in 2hr 18min 12.4sec, Clark fourth in 2hr 19min 29.5sec.

The race started on a damp track, drying out during the race, with rain on the last two of 15 laps. A true test and a clear winner.
