AERONAUTICAL COMPARISONS WITH THE VI2 LAGONDA

These days flying is on everyone’s minds and not unnaturally a friend who was out with us in a V12 Lagonda recently thought up some aeronautical comparisons. Fuel rationing limited our test of this great car to under 125 miles, whereas a certain aeroplane did 35,000 miles by way of running-in before having test-figures taken. Incidentally, it completed this mileage in six weeks, an average of 344 m.p.h. for twenty-four hours a day, inclusive of being grounded for ten days on account of an

untoward incident. Its carrying capacity being somewhat similar to that of the big Lagonda saloon, it is amusing to note that the aeroplane’s rating, R.A.C., would be 155 h.p., against the Lagonda’s 42. The loaded weight of both is within 1,000 lb., the car turning the scales at 5,500 lb., the aeroplane at 6,500 lb. Maximum r.p.m. would be 5,500 and 2,500 respectively, and maximum b.h.p. 180 and 850 respectively. The Lagonda gives about 11 m.p.g., the aeroplane 54.

BUGATTI OWNERS’ CLUB

The annual general meeting was held quietly at the R.A.C. on August 15th. Amongst those present were Col. Giles, Col. Sorel, Erie Giles, Walshain and Clutton. Col. Giles was expecting to go overseas shortly, so K. W. Bear . was elected vice-chairman, while Eric Giles was re-elected hon. treasurer and secretary and Cecil Clutton was co-opted to the distinguished council. Prescott has been successfully let, which appreciably eases the Club’s financial responsibilities.
