Gold fever in Cheshire

Bank holiday classic weekend brings Formula 2 back to Oulton Park

Oulton Park’s major Gold Cup meeting on August 26/27 will recreate the days when F2 was the highly competitive feeder to grand prix racing, with the only UK visit for the European Historic F2 Trophy.

“We hope to get over 20 F2 cars on the grid,” says HSCC boss Grahame White. As well as regular F2 runners for the two races, White hopes to encourage drivers from the Classic Racing Car Championship onto the grid of 1600cc and 2-litre F2 cars of the late 1960s and ’70s.

Another draw is a two-driver enduro for Motor Racing Legends Pre-War Sports Cars, while a pair of races for 2-litre sports cars repeats the successful pilot of 2006. In addition a contingent of 1-litre F3 ‘screamers’ from France will compete for the Peter Hanson Memorial Trophy, and there’s a 40min Pre-66 Saloon event. As well as 18 races, Group B rally cars will be performing on the rally school stage near the paddock. Advance tickets from £16; for details visit: www.motorsportvision.co.uk
