Club Affairs

Seventeen members of the Southern Jowett Car Club participated in the rally held at Balls Cross, near Petworth, on July 27th. The first event was a manoeuvrability test which involved the reversal into four rectangular parking spaces, finally reversing through two awkwardly placed stakes. Results: 1st: P. Kehl (7 h.p.), 1 min. 24 sec.; 2nd: D. E. White (10 h.p.), 1 min. 30 sec.; 3rd: N. Stranger...

Rare (?) A.C.s

Sir, May I be permitted to add my comments to those of Mr. J. A. Wood in your June issue on the subject of the alleged rare A.C. You will probably not be very surprised to learn that there are no fewer than twenty 2/4-seater A.C.s of the type advertised still in existence, in this country alone. It is hardly unique, therefore, on that score. Looking at the details of the twenty cars I find one is...

For this event, a revised course is used taking advantage of the various different runways and perimeter roads to make a circuit of 2.5 miles. Again organised by Holland Birkett the race this year took place in dull cloudy weather but with no rain, fortunately....

Club News

We Hear H. Birkett has sold his Type 44 Bugatti to Norman Sharp, a former 3-litre Bentley owner, and now motors in a series of Austin Sevens. The early lightcars are certainly getting out and about. We saw a beaded-edge-shod "8/18" Talbot two-seater and a Charron-Laycock two-seater recently, and encountered a "hip-bath" Gwynne Eight in Chiswick. It seems that the remains of a Sizaire-Naudin still...
