In brief, April 2014

* Timeless rockers Status Quo will play an outdoor concert on the opening day of the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power on Friday June 13. The seventh running of the three-day event will celebrate Italian marques, including Maserati and Ferrari. The main action will again be on the 1.2-mile speed event course in the grounds of the Cheshire castle.

* Kirkistown will host its first race for front-engined Formula Juniors on May 31. The category had moved on to rear-engined cars by the time the Northern Irish track opened.

* For the first time since October 1955, 500cc Formula 3 cars will compete at Castle Combe, during the Wiltshire track’s Autumn Classic on October 5. Renowned racing school founder Jim Russell won the last 500cc F3 race at Combe and Stirling Moss also competed in the class at the track. The category has strong links to the circuit, because it was conceived in nearby Bristol at the end of 1945. The race will be for the Bristol Aeroplane Company Motor Sports Club Challenge Trophy, celebrating the club members’ role in 500cc F3’s birth.
